What is the Athletes’ Council?

The Athletes’ Council is a representative council of U.S. Soccer composed of 20 current and former Athletes who are elected by their peers. The purpose of the Athletes’ Council is to provide a broader means of communication between Athletes and U.S. Soccer Federation. Representatives create reports and recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding matters that directly affect Athletes.

The council's votes count for 20% of electoral votes for various elections including that for the President and Vice President of U.S. Soccer. Additionally, the Chair and two Co-Chairs of the Athletes' Council serve on the Board of Directors of U.S. Soccer. 

 

Meet the Athletes’ Council Members

Members of the Athletes’ Council represent a diverse group of current and former players who have represented the U.S. at the highest level. Eligibility is defined as any athlete meeting the definition of Elite Athlete under the Ted Steven’s Act. Individuals may nominate their peers or self nominate. Athletes are elected to a four-year term and every two years 10 of the 20 seats are open for re-election.

Members of the Athletes’ Council are involved in growing the game at various levels and are passionate about their service to represent Athletes’ within U.S. Soccer.
